Havana is an informal settlement with poor infrastructure on the outskirts of Windhoek. It is a densely populated area. To give an example: In one typical shack of 5 x 5 meters 10 people have to live. The rate of unemployment and HIV/AIDS is high. Children are heavily affected by this situation. Drinking privately brewed alcohol often is consumed simply to satisfy hunger and chase away associated hunger pains. Children growing up in such an environment, receive little educational encouragement and often have no helpful role models.
